PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s KP Health Advisor, Ihtisham Ali, conducted an official visit to the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) on Wednesday to review its operations and training initiatives. He was welcomed by CEO Noor Wazir, Deputy CEO Nasir Afridi, and senior officials.
During the tour, Ali was briefed on PGMI’s 45 specialized diploma programs, which train doctors through merit-based admissions via ETEA exams. Notably, 1,100 doctors have qualified for 800 paid FCPS training slots, with placements in teaching hospitals for 4-5 years.
The advisor inspected PGMI’s Skills Lab—Pakistan’s first public-sector facility for hands-on medical training—and praised its advanced equipment. He announced plans to amend the PGMI Act to enhance its autonomy, addressing the province’s specialist doctor shortage. Ali stressed decentralized decision-making and institutional accountability for improved performance.
