Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reports another polio case

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Tursday to review efforts aimed at eradicating the polio virus in the province.

The meeting focused on urgent and coordinated measures to combat the disease, with officials declaring 276 Union Councils as high-risk areas for polio transmission.

The session was attended by key stakeholders, including the Secretary of Health, representatives from law enforcement agencies, the Provincial Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Coordinator, and officials from the National EOC.

International partners, commissioners, regional police officers, deputy commissioners, and district health officers also joined via video link.

During the meeting, a coordinated action plan was approved to address challenges in the high-risk Union Councils. Officials emphasized the need for effective measures to ensure the success of the ongoing anti-polio campaign, which began in April.

The Chief Secretary was briefed on the live dashboard of the Performance Reforms and Management Unit (PMRU), which monitors polio eradication activities. Shah directed all deputy commissioners to closely assess the challenges in their respective districts and propose actionable solutions.

Shah stressed that “emergency measures, responsibility, and accountability” are critical to completely eradicating polio. He called for better planning and joint efforts to ensure the virus is eliminated from the province.

The meeting underscored the importance of a unified approach to tackle polio, with officials reaffirming their commitment to achieving a polio-free Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
