2mln rupees fine imposed on 10 PTI MPAs

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has imposed fines totaling over Rs 2 million on 10 provincial lawmakers for creating chaos, damaging property, and violating decorum during the June 16 assembly session.

The disciplinary action was taken under Assembly Rules 223(R) and 235, which classify such behavior as serious misconduct. According to an official notification issued Saturday by the Speaker’s office, the lawmakers were seen climbing onto desks, breaking microphones, and causing damage to the assembly’s infrastructure.

Based on video evidence, each lawmaker has been fined Rs 203,550. The Speaker warned that failure to pay the fine within seven days would lead to legal action under the Punjab Government Dues Recovery Ordinance, 1962.

Those penalized include PTI members Chaudhry Javed Kausar, Asad Abbas, Muhammad Tanveer Aslam, Syed Riffat Mahmood, Muhammad Ismail, Shehbaz Ahmad, Imtiaz Mahmood, Khalid Zubair Nisar, Rana Aurangzeb, and Muhammad Ahsan Ali.

The Speaker also issued a strong warning to all assembly members, stating that any future acts of disorder or damage to property would be dealt with strictly. He emphasized that maintaining order and decorum in the House is a top priority.
