The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that the provincial government had approved the procurement of 3.5 metric tons of wheat in the current year. 21 centers were established across the province for wheat procurement, and wheat procurement was being monitored by monitoring committees of the Food Department.
The provincial government had fixed the price of 40 kilograms at Rs 3,900. There have been irregularities in wheat procurement and complaints of corruption have come to light.
The Chief Minister has formed a three-member committee on corruption complaints. The committee that has been formed has no legal status. An inquiry into the wheat scandal should be conducted by NAB so that the people involved can be exposed.
