Earthquake tremors strike Swat, surrounding areas Residents of Swat and Mingora felt earthquake tremors on March 5. Many people rushed out of homes and buildings in fear. No casualties or property damage have been reported. The seismic center recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake. It had a depth of 64 kilometers. The epicenter was in the Hindu Kush mountains. This region is known for frequent seismic activity. The tremors were brief but strong enough to cause panic. Just a week ago, strong tremors hit Islamabad, Peshawar, and other parts of KP. People fled buildings and recited prayers during that quake too.

ISLAMABAD: Shahbaz Leghari, head of the private earthquake forecasting company Earthquake Quick News & Research Center (EQQN), has issued an alert warning of potential earthquakes in Turkey, Greece, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Pakistan over the next week.

Leghari stated that Turkey, Greece, and Myanmar could experience quakes of magnitudes 4.8, 5.0, and 5.3, respectively. Pakistan and Afghanistan may face a 5.4-magnitude earthquake, with tremors likely felt across northern and southern regions of Pakistan. He emphasized that EQQN’s proprietary system can predict seismic activity up to 128 hours (5 days) in advance and claimed all past forecasts by the company have been accurate.

“Our goal is to save lives by providing timely warnings within a 5,000-kilometer radius of Pakistan,” Leghari said, adding that EQQN is the world’s first independent research center dedicated to earthquake forecasting.
