Under the directives of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, and in line with former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of a Green Pakistan, the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Program continues to deliver outstanding results in forest restoration and environmental protection. So far, 714 million trees have been planted across the province – a landmark achievement in ecosystem revival and climate change mitigation.
Pir Musavir Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Climate Change, Forestry, Environment, and Wildlife, stated that the afforestation campaign under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Program is progressing with remarkable success. He highlighted that the plantation of 714 million saplings marks a historic milestone in environmental conservation.
He further elaborated on the program’s achievements i.e. 312,000 acres of barren land have been converted into green forests. 5,876 acres of ecologically sensitive areas have been secured for wildlife and natural habitat protection. 3.2 million saplings have been distributed to local families and farmers for plantation in homes and farmlands. A significant investment of Rs. 7.5 billion has been utilised under the Billion Tree Afforestation Program. More than 900,000 employment opportunities have been created at the community level. To promote women’s participation, 1,039 nurseries have been entrusted to women. The ambitious target of 1.2 billion trees remains successfully on course.
Pir Musavir Khan added, “This initiative is not merely about planting trees — it is a pledge for a greener, healthier Pakistan for our future generations. Planting a tree is an everlasting act of charity, and we must all contribute wholeheartedly to this national cause.”
The program is not only helping reduce the adverse impacts of climate change but is also contributing to lowering air pollution, balancing rainfall patterns, and protecting vital water resources.
