PESHAWAR: A startling revelation has emerged from the audit report for the fiscal year 2023–24, uncovering that 80 vehicles belonging to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Livestock Department have gone missing. The vehicles, purchased over the years for various livestock development projects, could not be traced during the audit process, raising serious questions about the department’s transparency and accountability.
According to official documents, a total of 200 vehicles were procured for livestock-related projects between 2007 and 2021. However, during the audit, records for 80 of these vehicles could not be produced. While the Excise Department confirms that over 80 vehicles are still registered in the name of the Director General of Livestock, they are reportedly not present in field operations or at any official department premises.
The audit report has recommended a thorough investigation to trace the missing vehicles and hold those responsible accountable. In response, letters have been issued to concerned authorities to initiate recovery efforts.
Taking notice of the situation, the KP government has constituted an inquiry committee led by the Provincial Minister for Livestock and the Secretary for Livestock. The committee has been tasked with identifying the causes behind the disappearance and ensuring the return of the missing vehicles.
Speaking to reporters, the Provincial Minister vowed strict action against anyone found guilty of negligence or corruption. “There will be no concessions for those who have caused damage to the national treasury. If any officials are found involved, action will be taken without hesitation,” he said.
The incident has triggered public concern over potential misuse of public resources and has once again highlighted the need for stronger oversight mechanisms within government departments.
The inquiry is currently underway, and further updates are expected in the coming weeks.
