90-Year-Old man marries in Shangla, sons fulfill lifelong wish

In an unusual and heartwarming incident, four sons fulfilled their 90-year-old father’s long-held wish by arranging his marriage in Bisham, a town in Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The groom, Maulana Saifullah, tied the knot in a simple yet emotional ceremony attended by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and local residents. According to family sources, the sons actively searched for a bride for their father and organised the wedding with great respect and affection.

The dower (haq mehr) was set at one tola of gold.

This rare event has been widely appreciated as a powerful example of honouring the wishes of elders and challenging societal norms that often associate companionship with youth alone. The family’s gesture has been praised for valuing love, dignity, and emotional well-being regardless of age.

Earlier in 2024, a similar story made headlines in Kenya, where a 95-year-old man married his 90-year-old long-time love, six decades after they first met. According to local media, the couple opted for a Christian church wedding despite being married under Kikuyu customs. “We discussed it and decided that having a white wedding would be wonderful,” the groom was quoted as saying.
