A policeman was shot dead by unknown assailants in the limits of the Mandan police station in Bannu on Tuesday morning.
Police said that the police constable Khanzeb was on his way to duty on a motorcycle when he was intercepted and targeted by unknown assailants.
According to the police, soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and shifted the body of the policeman to the hospital.
Later on the day, police heads also visited the place to inspect the area and a search operation was launched in the area to track the terrorists down.

Bannu is one of the highly vulnerable regions of militancy, and several major terrorist incidents occurred in the area in the recent past.
DPO Bannu Saleem Abbas Kalachi today visited the martyrdom site of Constable Khanzeb, who was martyred in the firing of unknown terrorists. DPO Bannu inspected the crime scene in detail and issued strict instructions for the arrest of the accused on the spot.
