RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, took a notable humanitarian initiative by assuming responsibility for the medical care of two Pakistani children who were deported by India in the aftermath of an attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIO&JK).
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours rose sharply after a deadly assault on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, which left 26 dead and 17 injured.
India hastily blamed Pakistan for the incident without providing any credible evidence. Pakistan strongly condemned the attack and firmly rejected the Indian government’s unfounded accusations.
India blamed Pakistan without evidence and expelled Pakistani patients, including these children, in a politically charged move.
Shahid Ahmed, a resident of Hyderabad, Sindh, and the father of two children suffering from congenital heart disease, condemned the Modi government’s inhumane act and praised Gen Munir for immediately arranging treatment at AFIC, Rawalpindi.
Doctors confirmed the children are undergoing staged surgeries for Tetralogy of Fallot, a complex heart condition, with full care being provided by the Pakistan Army’s world-class medical team.
