Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi, has confirmed the arrest of 10 individuals involved in impersonation and cheating during the ETEA recruitment test for primary school teacher positions held on May 10.
Acting on a tip-off, ETEA officials, in coordination with the district administration and police, raided a guest house in Bannu where the suspects were found actively engaged in solving and leaking exam papers. Recovered from the scene were a laptop, a photocopier with a scanner, 10 mobile phones, and multiple confidential ETEA documents.
Initial findings revealed that the suspects were in contact with candidates in at least 10 different examination halls across the Bannu district. In one instance, a candidate smuggled the question paper and answer sheet out of an exam centre at the University of Science and Technology, Bannu, and delivered it to the group for solving.
An FIR has been registered at Mirakhel Police Station, and investigations are underway.
Minister Afridi praised the swift action of ETEA and law enforcement, stating, “This operation has exposed a network of impersonators. There will be no compromise on the principle of merit. We will take stern action against all those involved.”
He added that a high-level committee has been formed to further probe the incident and recommend measures to prevent future breaches. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to clean, transparent recruitment processes.
