MPA-led protesters storm power grid station in Peshawar

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly (MPA), Fazal Elahi, along with his supporters, stormed a power grid station in Peshawar here on Friday.

PTI MPA Fazal Elahi, along with angry protesters, stormed the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) grid stations.

According to the PESCO spokesperson, Fazal Elahi forcibly switched on all the feeders from the Rehman Baba grid station.

According to the spokesperson, the forcible activation of feeders caused the system to overload, leading to the suspension of power supply from the Rehman Baba grid station and plunging much of Peshawar into darkness.

The PESCO spokesperson claimed that hundreds of protesters have surrounded the Peshawar City Grid Station and the Peshawar Industrial Grid Station, and the protesters threatened and beat up PESCO staff.

The spokesperson further said that the forcibly switched-on feeders are considered high-loss feeders, and load management is done on these feeders due to frequent power theft and non-payment of dues.

While observing the tense situation, the PESCO administration has called the police to control the deteriorating situation.

According to the spokesperson, legal action is being taken against Fazal Elahi for forcibly activating the feeders.
