Weekend rain to bring relief amid heatwave spell in capital

KP Braces for Heavy Rain, Floods as Met Dept Issues Weather Alert

ISLAMABAD: Residents of the federal capital can expect some relief as the Met Office forecasts rain and partly cloudy skies in Islamabad on Sunday, offering a temporary break from the ongoing heatwave.

According to the latest advisory, thunderstorms and rain are expected to provide a short-lived respite from the intense heat, with daytime temperatures likely to hover between 39°C and 41°C — slightly lower than recent days. On Saturday, the mercury climbed to 40°C in Islamabad, with humidity levels staying below 30 percent.

While the forecasted rain may ease the dry spell, it could also lead to minor inconveniences such as slippery roads and localized waterlogging. Citizens are advised to remain cautious.

Despite the expected rain in the capital, most parts of Pakistan will continue to face severe heatwave conditions for the next two to three days. Temperatures are predicted to stay 5 to 7°C above normal in northern and central areas, including Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, KP, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Southern regions — including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan — will also see elevated temperatures, ranging 4 to 6°C above average. A prevailing high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is maintaining these extreme weather conditions and is expected to persist for at least two more days.

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are also forecasted for Gilgit-Baltistan, upper KP, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas during evening and nighttime hours.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and take precautions to stay safe amid the extreme heat and sporadic rain.
