KP government announces summer vacation schedule for schools as temperatures soar

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially announced the summer vacation schedule for all public and private schools across the province as extreme heat continues to grip several regions.

According to a notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, most districts in KP will observe summer break from June 15 to August 31. However, a shorter vacation period has been set for the upper districts, where schools will remain closed from July 1 to July 31, considering the relatively milder climate in those areas.

The directive applies to all government and private institutions under the provincial education authority. Meanwhile, the Punjab government had earlier released its own summer vacation schedule with different break dates for morning and afternoon shift schools. As per the School Education Department, Punjab, afternoon shift schools started their summer break on May 25, while morning shift institutions commenced vacations from May 28.

Public and private schools across Punjab are expected to reopen on August 15, pending weather conditions.

The prolonged school closures come as a response to the ongoing heatwave, which has led to growing concerns among parents and educationists. Many have urged authorities to prioritise student health and implement timely measures to protect children from heat-related illnesses.
