ISLAMABAD: Storms, rain, and hail are expected to hit various parts of the country, including Islamabad, today, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office forecast rain in Islamabad, northeastern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, and Kashmir. Aside from these areas, hot and dry weather will prevail across much of the country. Sibi is likely to be the hottest location today, with temperatures soaring to 50°C.
Storms and Downpours Cause Damage, Disruptions
A day earlier, severe storms and heavy rain lashed multiple areas, leading to widespread power outages. In Islamabad, strong winds caused power disruptions in various sectors. The storm even tore off the shed of the Quaid-e-Azam University canteen.
The Islamabad Deputy Commissioner instructed assistant commissioners to remain on alert and in the field. Magistrates were told to monitor low-lying areas, check construction sites and drainage systems, and ensure traffic flow in coordination with traffic police.
Flash floods were reported in parts of Mingora, where rain and hail flooded homes and shops. Swat faced road blockages due to water accumulation, causing traffic jams, while electricity was cut in several areas.
Other affected areas included Rawalpindi, Haripur, Khanpur, Abbottabad, Lower Dir, Buner, Swabi, Mansehra, Taxila, and Nowshera, where stormy winds led to power supply disruptions.
