Climber Saad Munawar makes history as first Pakistani to summit Mount Everest

ISLAMABAD: Saad Bin Munawar has made history by becoming the first Pakistani to summit Mount Everest (8,848.86 meters) via the challenging North Side route.

This remarkable feat places him among the elite ranks of the world’s top climbers. A celebrated adventurer, mountaineer, and author, Saad has long been an inspiration within Pakistan’s climbing and outdoor community. He previously became the first Pakistani to scale Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak outside Asia.

On May 24, Saad reached Everest’s summit as part of a nine-member expedition led by Imagine Nepal, following a one-day weather delay. The team included renowned mountaineers such as Dawa Gyalje Sherpa—who marked his 14th ascent of a peak over 8,000 meters—alongside other international climbers and Sherpas.

This achievement is both a personal milestone for Saad and a proud moment for Pakistan. The Alpine Club of Pakistan and others have extended heartfelt congratulations for his historic success.

Saad’s official Facebook page confirmed the accomplishment, stating he had “raised the green flag at the summit of the world’s highest peak.” The post added that he had returned safely to Camp 3 and requested prayers for his continued safe descent to base camp.

Unlike the more common southern route through Nepal, the northern approach to Everest begins in Tibet and is considered more technically demanding.
