Feild Marshal Asim Munir discusses strategic ties with Azerbaijan’s Defence Minister

LACHIN: Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir met with the Azerbaijani Defence Minister and discussed issues of bilateral relations and Defence cooperation on Wednesday.

 

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) met with the host country’s Defence Minister, Colonel Hasanov Zakir Asghar Oglu, in Lachin, Azerbaijan.

 

The ISPR said that during the meeting, the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security dynamics and ways to further enhance defence cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. On this occasion, the Chief of Army Staff appreciated the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with Azerbaijan.

 

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) visited the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, where the Army Chief met with Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri. In the meeting, the two military leaders discussed the changing regional security situation and focused on strengthening mutual defence ties.

The Public Relations Department of the Armed Forces said that Field Marshal Sayed Asim Munir was warmly welcomed upon his arrival in Iran where he was presented with a guard of honour by a well-dressed contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces.

 

The subsequent meeting discussed the possibilities of increasing cooperation between the armies in key areas of mutual interest, effective security measures on the common border, and transforming the border areas into centres of trade and economic ties that can lead to stability and prosperity in the region.
