A recent study by researchers at Germany’s University of Duisburg-Essen reveals that excessive internet use harms mental health, reducing concentration and leading to impulsive decisions. Led by Prof. Dr. Matthias Brand, the study analyzed over 1,000 volunteers from 2021 to 2024 and found that internet-addicted individuals struggle with distractions and risky choices.
The research highlights a vicious cycle: poor self-control increases addiction risk, while addiction further erodes willpower. The team is recruiting more volunteers to study the problem deeper .
