ISLAMABAD: Former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq has stated that the arrest of party Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan is not unusual for JI, asserting that legal steps are being taken and predicting his imminent release. Haq made these comments during an interview with Pakhtun Digital Podcast.
Haq emphasized that JI consistently voices public concerns on all issues. However, commenting on the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Pakistan (TTP) movement, he noted it is not part of Pakistan’s constitutional framework. He stressed that broad consultation is essential before forming any such movement, suggesting that perhaps the TTP alliance was formed independently and may still require wider discussion.
Haq also strongly criticized the Indian government, accusing it of refusing to acknowledge Pakistan’s existence. He claimed Prime Minister Modi’s party adheres to the “Akhand Bharat” (Undivided India) narrative, which views Pakistan, Burma, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan as integral parts of India. Haq declared that Pakistan has once again successfully countered the “arrogance” of the Modi government.
Furthermore, Haq revealed that while a coalition government was formed between JI and PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after the elections, the two parties failed to forge an alliance for the subsequent local body polls. He claimed JI was informed that PTI received instructions “from above” not to partner with Jamaat-e-Islami in those elections
Haq concluded by affirming that Jamaat-e-Islami conducts politics based on principles and will persist in advocating for public issues on every available platform.
