WSSP finalises Eid-ul-Azha operation plan; 3,563 staff to ensure cleanliness across Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has finalised a comprehensive three-day Eid-ul-Azha Operation Plan, deploying 3,563 officials and 707 vehicles to ensure the swift collection and disposal of sacrificial animal waste across 42 union councils in the city.
The plan was approved in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Executive Officer Yasir Ali Khan, with the participation of General Manager Operations Muhammad Ijaz, zonal managers, and other senior officials. As part of the operation, all leaves of operational, administrative, and office staff have been cancelled to ensure uninterrupted service during the Eid holidays.
Zone-wise staff deployment includes 669 officials in Zone A, 1,100 in Zone B, 829 in Zone C, 487 in Zone D, and 478 in Zone E. Monitoring teams have been established at the zonal level to oversee operations and ensure efficiency.
To facilitate waste collection, the staff will collect animal remains from streets and alleys and transport them to 17 designated collection points, including areas such as Ring Road, Gulbahar, Science College Chowk, Phandu Road, and others. From these points, large vehicles will carry the waste to a specially prepared dumping site, measuring 200 feet long, 125 feet wide, and 13 feet deep, where it will be sprayed and covered with soil.
The WSSP has distributed 400 kilograms of biodegradable plastic bags to residents to encourage safe disposal. An awareness campaign, supported by over 200 scholars and elected representatives, is also underway to promote proper waste management practices during Eid. Awareness banners are being placed across the city, and announcements are being made at the community level.
Temporary transfer stations have been set up at five locations, and standby staff and vehicles are prepared to respond to any emergency. Lime and pesticides have also been stocked for sanitation purposes.
The CEO directed zonal authorities to ensure that field staff are provided with water, food, and other essential facilities during the operation. The complaints cell will remain operational around the clock, and the cleaning of Eidgahs will be completed before Eid prayers.
The WSSP management has urged citizens to refrain from discarding animal remains in rivers, streets, or undesignated areas. Residents are advised to use the provided bags and either place them outside their homes or deliver them to the designated collection points to facilitate smooth and hygienic waste removal.
