MECCA: Saudi Arabia has deployed advanced US-made Patriot air defense missile systems around the holy city of Mecca to ensure the safety of millions of pilgrims arriving for this year’s Hajj.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense released photos confirming the deployment of the Patriot systems, which are designed to protect against threats like ballistic missiles and drones. This forms a key part of the kingdom’s strict security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage.
Further bolstering security, military helicopters are conducting aerial surveillance flights over the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) and surrounding areas. Officials state these combined measures are crucial to safeguard the massive influx of worshippers undertaking their spiritual journey.
The Patriot system represents cutting-edge technology specifically chosen to counter aerial dangers. The helicopter patrols add an extra layer of monitoring from the sky.
Saudi authorities emphasized that the safety and security of all Hajj pilgrims is their absolute top priority. They have implemented comprehensive measures to create a secure environment, allowing pilgrims to focus entirely on their religious duties during this sacr
ed time.
