KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a major relief initiative for prisoners across the province by granting a special amnesty in celebration of Eidul Azha.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah declared a 120-day remission for general prisoners. However, he clarified that the amnesty does not extend to inmates convicted of serious crimes such as murder, terrorism, rape, kidnapping, financial corruption, or espionage.
Prisoners on death row, as well as those convicted under narcotics laws, foreign acts, or involved in financial irregularities, are also excluded from the remission, the Chief Minister added.
A formal notification regarding the 120-day amnesty has been issued by the Sindh Home Department, the CM’s spokesperson confirmed on Friday.
