Fire breaks out near KP house in Abbottabad, extinguished

MARDAN: Precious trees and plants reduced to ashes when fire broke out in Takht Bhai archeological site , District Mardan Monday.

This marks the third fire incident in the area within a few days. The site, renowned for its Buddhist archaeological significance, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 1st century CE.

Upon receiving reports of the blaze, firefighters from Rescue 1122 were promptly dispatched to the scene. Given the fire’s intensity and the challenging terrain, District Emergency Officer  coordinated additional firefighting resources. Despite these efforts, the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Local residents have expressed concern over the recurring fire incidents and are urging relevant authorities to investigate the underlying causes. They fear that without proper inquiry and preventive measures; the archaeological integrity of the site could be compromised.

 

The Takht Bhai archaeological site, perched approximately 500 feet atop a hill, comprises a series of monastic structures, stupas, and meditation cells. It offers a unique glimpse into the Buddhist monastic life of the Gandhara civilization. The site’s preservation is crucial for both cultural heritage and tourism, attracting visitors and scholars interested in ancient Buddhist history.

 

Given the site’s historical and cultural importance, it is imperative that authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the recent fire incidents to ensure the protection and preservation of this invaluable heritage.
