Affordable housing loans for poor unveiled in federal budget

Finance Minister unveils Rs17.573tr federal budget for FY2025–26

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb unveiled a major housing initiative during Tuesday’s budget speech, pledging affordable loans to help low-income citizens buy or build homes.

Addressing the National Assembly, Aurangzeb stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif prioritizes social development schemes with “profound welfare impacts.” Under the new program, subsidized credit will enable economically vulnerable groups to access housing.

The Finance Minister emphasized dual benefits: boosting economic activity across construction-related sectors and creating skilled job opportunities. The State Bank of Pakistan will soon release detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures.
