U.S. and Iran Hold First Direct Talks in Oman Amid Tensions

Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh threatened to target American military bases across the Middle East if nuclear negotiations collapse and conflict erupts with the United States. The warning came during a press briefing ahead of a critical sixth round of talks scheduled this week, with Washington and Tehran disputing the meeting date—the U.S. claims Thursday, while Iran insists on Sunday in Oman.

Nasirzadeh responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated bombing threats, declaring, “If conflict is imposed on us… all U.S. bases are within our reach.” He also revealed Iran recently tested a ballistic missile carrying a two-ton warhead, vowing no limits on its arms program.

The talks remain deadlocked over Iran’s uranium enrichment—which Western powers fear could yield nuclear weapons—and its missile development.
