RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has issued a forceful condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes targeting nuclear and military sites inside Iran, calling the actions a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of international law.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom denounced the attacks as “open Israeli aggression” against a sovereign Islamic nation and emphasised that such actions pose a direct threat to regional peace and stability.
The Saudi statement affirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It described the strikes as a clear breach of international norms and principles, particularly those enshrined in the United Nations Charter, which prohibit the use of force against the territorial integrity of member states. Riyadh warned that these developments could drag the region into a broader military confrontation with unpredictable consequences for global peace.
Saudi Arabia’s reaction is not only rooted in concerns for Iran’s sovereignty but also reflects a broader alarm over the escalating tensions in the Middle East. The Kingdom has long advocated for restraint, dialogue, and the resolution of disputes through diplomatic means rather than military confrontation. The statement called upon the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to assume its responsibilities by taking urgent and effective measures to deter further aggression and prevent a wider regional conflict.
Observers see Saudi Arabia’s firm position as consistent with its recent diplomatic outreach in the region, including efforts to ease tensions with Iran and foster a more stable Gulf security framework. The condemnation also comes amid heightened concerns over the potential fallout of further Israeli military action, which could jeopardise ongoing diplomatic efforts and deepen sectarian and geopolitical divisions across the region.
In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s stance reflects a clear message: unilateral military actions that violate sovereignty and international law are unacceptable, and the international system must respond decisively to uphold peace, legality, and regional stability.
