Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Iranian nuclear and military facilities during an emergency UN Security Council session on Friday, calling them a “grave danger to regional and global peace.”
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, denounced the strikes as “unjustified and illegitimate,” reaffirming Islamabad’s solidarity with Iran. The meeting was requested by Iran, backed by Pakistan, China, and Russia, with Tehran accusing Israel of crossing “every red line.”
UN officials warned of escalating risks, with Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo urging restraint to prevent a “wider regional conflict.” She noted the attacks came just as diplomatic efforts, including planned US-Iran talks, were underway.
Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stressed that nuclear facilities must never be targeted, citing serious safety and security implications. He offered IAEA’s support for dialogue to de-escalate tensions.
Pakistan urged the Security Council to uphold international law and resolve the crisis through diplomacy, not military action.
