Punjab Government to present over Rs 5.3 Trillion Budget for fiscal year 2025–26 today

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government is set to present its budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025–26 in the Provincial Assembly today at 2 PM. The budget session will be held under the chairmanship of Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, with Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman formally unveiling the budget documents.

 

According to sources, the upcoming budget proposes an allocation of Rs 4,060 billion for non-development expenditures and Rs 1,240 billion for the development program. The government plans to include a total of 3,132 development schemes in this budget. Of the total development outlay, Rs 535.98 billion is proposed for ongoing projects, while Rs 470.62 billion is earmarked for new schemes.

 

As part of new initiatives aimed at enhancing public convenience and economic self-sufficiency, the budget includes a proposed allocation of Rs 1 billion for the establishment of the Punjab Airline. In line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, the government will also launch an independent program aimed at promoting self-reliance among the public. Additionally, the establishment of an Electric Power Regulatory Authority is planned to help improve governance and efficiency in the energy sector.

Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman stated that the upcoming budget reflects Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s development-oriented vision. He assured that no new taxes will be imposed. Instead, the existing taxation system will be made more efficient in order to boost revenue without burdening the public.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb shared a message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:“We are not just presenting a budget; we are presenting a mission.”

She added that today marks a pivotal moment in shaping Punjab’s financial future, outlining development priorities and public relief initiatives. All eyes are on the budget to see how it will address the province’s economic and social needs.
