TEHRAN: Iranian authorities have executed a man convicted of espionage on behalf of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, state media reported Monday, as hostilities between Tehran and Tel Aviv continue to intensify following recent cross-border attacks.
The execution followed a full judicial process, including a trial and final approval by Iran’s Supreme Court. Although officials have not released the identity of the individual, they confirmed he was found guilty of conducting espionage and subversive activities in collaboration with Israel.
The announcement came as Iranian security forces reported further arrests linked to suspected Israeli operations within the country. According to Sa’eed Montazer al-Mahdi, spokesperson for the Islamic Republic of Iran Police Command, two alleged Mossad operatives were apprehended on Sunday in Fashafuyeh, a district in Ray County, located in Tehran Province.
Authorities reportedly seized a significant cache of weapons and materials from the suspects, including more than 200 kilograms of explosives, components for 23 drones, launchers, and other military equipment. A Nissan pickup truck used by the operatives was also confiscated.
“These operatives were identified and arrested before they could execute acts of sabotage inside the country,” said Montazer al-Mahdi.
In a separate operation earlier the same day, two additional individuals suspected of ties to Mossad were detained in Savojbolagh County, Alborz Province, near the capital. Officials believe the suspects were part of a broader Israeli plot involving the use of small, explosive-laden drones to destabilize Iranian infrastructure and security.
Iranian authorities have accused Mossad of orchestrating multiple sabotage operations on Iranian soil since June 13, when Israeli airstrikes reportedly targeted several sites inside Iran, including civilian areas. Tehran condemned the strikes as unprovoked aggression and responded with a large-scale retaliatory attack involving ballistic missiles and drones aimed at major Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.
Reports from Israel indicate widespread disruption to daily life in affected areas, with civilians seeking refuge in bomb shelters as tensions remain high.
The Iranian government has vowed to dismantle all Mossad-linked networks operating within the country. Officials say the latest arrests highlight the continued vigilance of Iran’s intelligence services amid a period of heightened regional conflict.
