PDMA prepares and formally issues Monsoon 'Contingency Plan 2025'

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has prepared and formally issued the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2025 to enhance the province’s capacity to manage monsoon-related disasters. The plan outlines precautionary and operational strategies to tackle potential emergencies such as flash floods, urban flooding, landslides, and heavy rainfall across all regions of the province.

Prepared under the supervision of the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department, the plan is the result of extensive consultations and coordination with all 36 district administrations, technical experts, and humanitarian partners. A series of meetings was conducted to assess vulnerabilities, address gaps from previous seasons, and ensure that the plan reflects ground realities.

According to PDMA Director General Asfandyar Khattak, all 36 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been categorised based on monsoon risk into highly sensitive, sensitive, and less sensitive districts. Essential relief items—including tents, plastic sheets, mosquito nets, blankets, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, and clean water containers—have been pre-positioned in vulnerable areas.

The provincial government has already provided sufficient funds to district administrations for preparedness and response. Furthermore, an additional Rs. 205 million has been allocated by PDMA as per the latest demands received from the districts. PDMA has assured that more funds will be released as required, depending on the evolving situation during the monsoon.

To formally launch the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2025, a high-level meeting was held at PDMA Headquarters in Peshawar. The session was chaired by Mr. Nek Muhammad Khan, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement. The meeting was attended by Director General Asfandyar Khattak and all high-ranking officers of PDMA, including senior officials from the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) section and the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC).

During the meeting, DG PDMA Asfandyar Khattak gave a comprehensive briefing on the key components of the plan. He explained district-wise risk profiles, resource deployment, emergency coordination frameworks, early warning systems, and operational readiness. The session also reviewed PDMA’s communication strategies and its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to any developing emergency.

Advisor Mr. Nek Muhammad Khan appreciated the efforts of the PDMA team and emphasised the importance of early preparedness, timely coordination, and public awareness. He instructed the PDMA leadership to remain fully alert throughout the season and to ensure that field-level responses are swift, well-coordinated, and community-focused.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from PDMA leadership to implement the plan effectively. Citizens were advised to follow official instructions during heavy rainfall, avoid risky areas, and fully cooperate with district administrations for their own safety and timely assistance.
