A highly anticipated Shandur Polo Festival commenced this week in a vibrant ceremony that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region. Hosted in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority, Pakistan Army, and Chitral Scouts, the festival promises to be a grand celebration of sports and tourism.
The opening ceremony welcomed notable guests, including Information Advisor Barrister Saif and Sports Minister Fakhar Jahan, who emphasised the significance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a peaceful province with abundant tourism opportunities. Barrister Saif praised the provincial government’s initiatives, stating, “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is organising an international-level festival, and we are taking the best steps to promote tourism in the region.”
The event saw significant coordination from local authorities, with the full support of district administrations of Chitral Upper and Lower, as well as police, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for attendees.
On the inaugural day of the festival, an exciting polo match took place, pitting Sarlaspur Chitral against Ghizer Gilgit-Baltistan. The match concluded with Sarlaspur emerging victorious with a score of 6-3 goals, setting a thrilling tone for the events to follow.
The ceremony also featured key figures in tourism, including Secretary Tourism Bakhtiar Khan, Commissioner Malakand Abid Wazir, and DG Tourism Authority Habibullah Arif, who were present to support and promote the festival.
As the Shandur Polo Festival unfolds, it highlights the region’s rich cultural tapestry and positions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a premier destination for both adventure and cultural tourism.
