Iranian FM declares negotiations "Meaningless" after Trump's "Betrayal" with attacks

During a press conference in Istanbul, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that former U.S. President Donald Trump had betrayed Iran, making any return to the negotiating table pointless. He emphasised that while negotiations were taking place, the U.S. conducted attacks, demonstrating that the U.S. and its allies chose aggression over diplomacy.

Araqchi accused the U.S. of giving the green light to these attacks instead of intervening to stop Israel. He asserted that the U.S. actions are a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law, warning that they could have devastating consequences for the region. He indicated that there would be no compromise regarding the defence of the Iranian people.

The Iranian Foreign Minister called on the international community to take immediate and effective action against U.S. attacks and to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to seek a peaceful resolution to the situation. He affirmed Iran’s right to self-defence, condemning attacks based on false accusations. Araqchi noted that Iran has demonstrated over the past twenty years that it does not possess nuclear weapons.

He added that Iran will assess the current situation regarding diplomacy before deciding on its next steps. Araqchi further stated that not only Iran but the entire world must unite to address this issue, declaring that the United States has crossed a red line by attacking nuclear facilities, which will not be tolerated.

Additionally, he announced that he would be travelling to Moscow to meet with President Vladimir Putin.
