Former JUI-F candidate and renowned scholar Maulana Riazullah passes away

NOWSHERA: Maulana Riazullah, a respected religious scholar and former candidate of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) from the NA-5 constituency, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of religious service and political engagement. He was widely known as “Sheikh-ul-Quran wal Hadith”, a title earned through decades of scholarly contribution to Islamic education and jurisprudence.

The news of his death was received with deep sorrow by religious circles, political allies, and the broader public, especially in Nowshera and surrounding areas where he was held in high esteem. His funeral is expected to draw a large crowd, including senior leaders of JUI-F, students, followers, and community members.

Maulana Riazullah had long been affiliated with Darul Uloom and madrasa education systems, where he taught generations of students the teachings of the Quran and Hadith. His sermons were known not only for their spiritual depth but also for addressing pressing social and moral issues, making him a revered figure across sectarian lines.

In the political realm, he was active under the banner of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and contested the NA-5 National Assembly seat, representing the religious and conservative vote bank of the region. While he did not win the seat, his campaign was marked by strong community support, particularly from madrasa students and traditional voters.

Several political and religious leaders expressed grief at his passing. JUI-F leaders called him a “pillar of religious scholarship and steadfast supporter of Islamic values in politics.” Local community leaders noted his efforts in dispute resolution, welfare work, and religious education.

The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed publicly, but sources close to the family say he had been facing health issues in recent months. His funeral prayer will be held at his hometown in Nowshera, with thousands expected to attend. Maulana Riazullah is survived by his children and students who continue to run his educational institutions. His death marks the end of a significant chapter in the region’s religious-political landscape.
