PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat on Wednesday said that PTI lost strength due to its leadership and expressed serious concerns about the party’s internal politics, leadership decisions, and ongoing legal challenges.
Speaking to reporters, Marwat revealed that following the events of May 09, multiple cases were registered against him across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “I am still not being provided with the details of these cases,” he said, questioning the transparency and legal procedure being followed.
He further criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa budget process, saying, “The KP budget was already made controversial before it was even presented.” He also objected to associating the provincial budget with PTI’s founding chairman, calling it an unfair political narrative.
Marwat voiced disapproval of the social media campaign allegedly targeting the current Chief Minister of KP, calling it a coordinated propaganda effort. “The entire PTI cabinet in KP, including its members, are internally aligned with each other, but they are not being honest with the people,” he claimed.
In a strong critique of the legal strategy adopted by PTI in recent times, Marwat said that prominent lawyer Salman Akram Raja had himself drafted a legal petition, yet distanced himself from it once it attracted criticism online. “He backed out when the backlash came,” Marwat remarked.
The PTI leader also aimed at those within the party allegedly working to set aside Imran Khan. “You are weakening the party by trying to minus Khan,” he said, suggesting that internal sabotage is responsible for the party’s deteriorating political position.
Marwat went on to allege that the Peshawar High Court had issued orders to shut down PTI’s YouTube channel, though no official confirmation of such an order was shared. He also condemned what he called the “distribution of treason certificates” by certain PTI figures, noting that such individuals were never seen on the ground during difficult times. “Those labelling others as traitors never stood up for the party themselves,” he said.
Marwat admitted that PTI had lost much of its strength due to internal discord. “It is our leadership that discredited itself and weakened the party,” he stated. His remarks are likely to fuel ongoing debates about PTI’s future direction and internal divisions, especially amid continued legal and political pressures on its top leadership.
