Education budget includes 96 projects and more, says Minister

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai chaired a review meeting of the Education Department ADP. It was informed in the meeting that a total of 96 projects have been included in the ADP for the current financial year.

These include 37 ongoing and 20 new projects in the settled districts, 14 ongoing and 5 new projects in the AIP, while 16 ongoing and 4 new projects in the merged districts ADP.

Among the new projects, Rs 300 million has been allocated for the purchase of land for schools, Rs 855 million for the restoration of 10 historical schools, Rs 100 million for the introduction of tele-education, Rs 1200 million for the Education Emergency School Support Program, Rs 100 and 200 million for teacher training and licensing respectively. This includes establishment of Centres of Excellence (150 million), establishment of 200 schools under Education Foundation (100 million), 500 additional classrooms in schools (407 million), construction of 50 primary schools (375 million), Girls Community Schools and ALP Centres (220 million), ECE rooms (5 million), smart classrooms (500 million), model schools in southern districts (826 million), construction of 50 schools in merged districts (1500 million) and construction of boundary walls and washrooms in 120 schools (278 million).

The project of 500 additional classrooms (470 million) in two-room primary schools in merged districts is also part of the ADP. This year, the process of upgradation of 41 new primary schools, 12 secondary schools, 31 primary schools to middle level and 23 middle schools to high level will start. In addition, the completion of 71 examination halls and 64 science labs in the merged districts, construction of 67 schools, establishment of 2 cadet colleges in the settled districts and 3 model schools in the merged districts are being implemented.

The Education Minister further said that the mega projects in the current financial year include the establishment of Girls Cadet College in Dera Ismail Khan, completion of the construction work of Girls Cadet College Mardan, establishment of Cadet College in Lakki Marwat, monthly stipend program for students of merged districts, completion of Human Capital Investment Project, solarization of schools, reconstruction of damaged schools in Khyber Bara district, provision of school bags and free textbooks in merged districts, establishment of Swabi Model School, upgradation of 150 schools and establishment of 100 new primary schools.

The Education Minister said that the current side budget in the 2025-26 ADP is Rs 303.583 billion and the development budget is Rs 23.28 billion, while the total budget has been kept at Rs 328.865 billion, which is 13 percent more than last year. He said that 91 percent of the work of 24 schemes has been completed, which will be completed this year. In addition, Rs 5 billion has been allocated to bring children back to school. Projects like Taleem Card and Tele-Talaeem are also being launched this year.
