RAWALPINDI: Thirteen Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom in a suicide bombing on a security convoy in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, in what the Pakistan Army’s media wing described as a “cowardly attack planned by the terrorist state of India and executed through its proxy, Fitna al-Khawarij.”
In a statement issued Saturday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attack began when a suicide bomber driving an explosive-laden vehicle attempted to strike the convoy. The initial group of security forces intercepted the attacker, foiling the main plan. However, in a desperate move, another explosive-laden vehicle was rammed into the lead vehicle, resulting in the martyrdom of 13 personnel.
Three civilians, including two children and a woman, were also critically injured in the blast.
Security Forces eliminated 14 Terrorists
In retaliation, security forces launched a sanitisation operation in the area. After an intense exchange of fire, 14 terrorists from the Indian-sponsored group were killed. ISPR vowed that operations would continue until all involved in the heinous act are brought to justice.
“The sacrifices of our brave soldiers and civilians only strengthen our resolve to root out terrorism and safeguard the nation,” the statement added.
Earlier in the day, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Office had confirmed the death of eight security personnel, with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur strongly condemning the attack. Expressing condolences, he saluted the martyrs and reaffirmed full support for security forces.
“This cowardly act will not weaken our resolve. The entire nation stands united with its defenders,” he said.
ISPR also highlighted ongoing intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in the tribal districts. A recent IBO in Sararogha, South Waziristan, targeted terrorists affiliated with the Indian-backed Fitna al-Khawarij network. Earlier in April, 17 terrorists were killed in operations near Hassan Khel, and 14 more were neutralised in Datta Khel.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating foreign-sponsored terrorism and vowed to pursue all threats with full force.
