ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached such levels that the entire province is suffering from constant crises. Speaking to media, Asif criticized the PTI-led provincial government while also commenting on internal PTI affairs and recent political developments.
Asif stated that PTI’s future appears uncertain due to ongoing infighting and failure to hold internal party elections. “PTI hasn’t held party elections for long. Sometimes it’s called Sunni Ittehad, sometimes PTI – what is this party’s real identity?” he questioned.
Regarding recent incidents in KP, the Defense Minister said these were not isolated events but part of an ongoing pattern. He specifically mentioned attacks on Islamabad using machinery as incidents that worsen the situation.
The Minister also commented on PTI’s internal politics, claiming no one in the party is seriously working for their founder’s release, which he said reflects the party’s controversial internal system. He suggested some recently released PTI leaders might form a new party or join existing government allies.
On positive developments, Asif credited the current hybrid system with improving Pakistan’s passport and credit rankings. He highlighted three major achievements in six weeks including India’s withdrawal from SCO and successful Indus Waters Treaty negotiations.
The Defense Minister also speculated about India’s future moves to restore its global reputation but clarified he had no confirmed information about such plans.
