An audit report for the fiscal year 2024-25 has revealed significant financial irregularities and administrative negligence within the KP food department.
Serious revelations regarding financial irregularities and administrative negligence have emerged from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Food Department. The audit report for the year 2024-25 identifies irregularities totalling over Rs 7.19 billion within the department. Notably, the largest discrepancies were found in the procurement of wheat, where financial irregularities exceeded Rs 6.13 billion. This mismanagement of purchasing expensive wheat resulted in a loss of more than Rs 10 million to the national exchequer.
Additionally, out of the Rs 500 million allocated for the Insaf Food Card project, Rs 188 million was lost as the project has not yet commenced. The audit report also noted that the treasury suffered losses of Rs 133.5 million due to the non-recovery of fines, Rs 23.8 million from the purchase of unnecessary chromatography machines, and Rs 210 million because of delayed license renewals.
Pakhtun Digital attempted to obtain a version from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Minister regarding this serious issue, but has yet to receive a response.
