PDMA issues heavy rain alert across most KP districts from July 5 to 11

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heavy rain alert for most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 5 to 11. During this period, heavy rainfall is expected in the upper districts of the province, including Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral (Upper and Lower), Dir (Upper and Lower), Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan (Upper and Lower), Kolai Palace Kohistan, Torghar, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, and Charsadda.

Additionally, there is a risk of flooding in rivers and canals in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, and Hangu. Heavy rains are also anticipated in the plains of Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and both North and South Waziristan.

Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan due to the expected heavy rainfall. There is an increased risk of flooding in the Chitral River, Swat River, Panjkora River, and Kabul River in the upper regions of the province.

The risk of landslides is also present in Abbottabad, Battagram, Buner, Dir, Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Malakand, and Mansehra due to the anticipated rains.

PDMA has issued a directive to all districts to adopt emergency measures. Local populations in vulnerable areas should be alerted immediately.

During this time, emergency services and rescue personnel must remain on high alert. Emergency equipment and resources should be prepared in advance.

Additionally, tourists are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during this period.
