PM Shehbaz directs NDMA to remain on high alert amid potential flooding

Weather Alert: Storms Likely in Punjab, KP, GB, and Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed NDMA, rescue agencies, and the administration to remain on high alert given any emergency arising from recent rains and potential flooding in areas along the Indus River and other rivers.

The Prime Minister has instructed NDMA, rescue agencies, and local administrations to immediately implement precautionary and protective measures. The Prime Minister has directed NDMA to strengthen coordination with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to effectively manage the flood situation.

NDMA has also been instructed to reinforce close collaboration with provincial governments and all relevant institutions. The Prime Minister has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to provide the public with real-time information using all available means to keep them informed.

“There is a risk of increased flooding in downstream districts of the Indus River due to the Tarbela Dam spillway operations,” said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has emphasised that provincial administrations should continue effective public awareness campaigns regarding the potential flood situation.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has been directed to identify high, medium, and low-risk flood zones through the media so that timely alerts can be issued to the public. NDMA must ensure that provincial administrations are fully prepared in advance to deal with any possible situation, as directed by the Prime Minister.
