Muzammil Aslam voices concern over decline in country Textile exports

KP meets targets as KPRA collects Rs 47 billion revenue till June 15, 2025

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Finance Advisor, Muzammil Aslam, has expressed deep concern over the sharp decline in Pakistan’s textile exports, terming it a reflection of economic mismanagement and policy failures under the current federal government.

Speaking to the media, Muzammil Aslam highlighted the alarming drop in textile exports, stating, “Today, three years later, our textile exports have decreased to $17.9 billion. This is a significant fall from the $19.3 billion recorded in 2022.”

He further criticised the narrative promoted by the Prime Minister, his advisors, coalition partners, and certain sections of the media, who have consistently claimed that the country is progressing since the ouster of Imran Khan’s government. “The reality is quite the opposite,” Aslam said. “Key sectors like textiles, which are the backbone of our export economy, are now in decline.” Muzammil Aslam also aimed for the economic performance of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stating, “This is the fourth time PML-N is in power, and in every term, we have witnessed a consistent decline in exports. Their record speaks for itself.”

He remarked that there was no greater example of incompetence and negligence in Pakistan’s economic history than what is currently being witnessed. The data is clear – we are going backwards, not forward.” The Finance Advisor called for immediate and bold reforms to revive the export sector and restore investor confidence in the economy. While referencing official data, he noted that the decline comes despite a global environment where regional competitors like Bangladesh and Vietnam are expanding their textile exports. “This is not just a global downturn; it’s a sign of missed opportunities and weak policy support,” he added.
