ABBOTTABAD: Abbottabad’s Cantonment Board property tax dispute has escalated after prominent lawyer Barrister Hashim Iqbal Jadoon served a Rs. 50 million defamation notice to the Board’s Executive Officer and Vice Chairman.
Jadoon alleges the Board damaged his reputation through false social media posts claiming he partially paid 2025 property taxes for relatives. These posts, he states, implied he secretly endorsed the Board’s tax collection – which he calls “malicious lies.”
In reality, Jadoon is actively challenging the tax’s legality in court. The High Court temporarily halted tax collection on July 2, 2025, following his petition. He denies ever paying taxes or advising relatives to pay, calling the Board’s collection “illegal.”
The lawyer accuses Board officials of running a smear campaign to paint him as hypocritical – fighting taxes publicly while paying privately. His notice demands:
– Public withdrawal of all false statements
– Removal of related social media content
– Unconditional apology within 14 days
Failure to comply will result in a Rs. 50 million defamation lawsuit against each official.
