Commissioner orders crackdown on Illegal gold extraction in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud declared a zero-tolerance policy against the illegal use of mineral resources during an emergency visit to Nowshera district. Acting on clear provincial government orders, he stated illegal mineral transportation and gold smuggling will be strictly prevented through coordinated efforts by all relevant agencies.

 

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Nowshera Irfanullah Mehsud and representatives of the legal leaseholder company, Commissioner Mehsud inspected a leased gold block on the Indus River banks in Jabi Nizampur via boat.

 

Following the inspection, Commissioner Mehsud chaired a high-level meeting at the DC Office with district administration, police, minerals department, and other agency officials. Key decisions were made to combat illegal gold extraction from the Indus River.

A joint operation involving the district administration, police, and minerals department will be launched against illegal miners.

Steps will be taken to cut supply lines for illegal mining, including stopping petrol and diesel supplies to these operations.

A joint check post will be established in cooperation with the legal leaseholder company.

Full administrative and security support will be provided to legal leaseholders.

Commissioner Mehsud directed the Deputy Commissioner to immediately prepare and implement a coordinated security plan with the legal mining company. He assured legal mining companies of the provincial government’s full support, pledging constant coordination with district authorities, police, and the minerals department to encourage legal operations.
