PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that advice to convene a session of the provincial assembly has not yet been received from Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, due to which the elected members of the assembly on reserved seats could not take oath.
Talking to media persons, the Governor said that the members elected on reserved seats have to take the oath of membership of the assembly, after which they will be eligible to cast their votes in the Senate elections. However, for this whole process, it is necessary that a session of the assembly be convened.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said, “The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is requested to send an advice to convene the meeting as soon as possible so that the democratic process is not delayed.” Political observers say that if the successful candidates on reserved seats are not able to take the oath, not only the Senate elections may be affected but also constitutional and legal complications may arise.
Meanwhile, opposition circles have also expressed concern over the delay in the meeting and have demanded that the democratic process be avoided. It should be noted that the process of swearing-in of women and minority members elected on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly must be completed before the Senate elections, so that all elected members can fulfil their constitutional responsibilities.
