PESHAWAR: The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court has cancelled interim bails in 10 cases registered in connection with the violent incidents of May 9 and issued an arrest order.
The court gave the verdict based on Omar Ayub’s continuous absence from the court and directed the relevant authorities to arrest him and produce him in court.
On the other hand, the Faisalabad Anti-Terrorism Court has also issued a contempt of court notice for Omar Ayub’s non-appearance in the May 09 cases. The court expressed strong anger and said that despite repeated summons, absence is unacceptable, and the CPO Faisalabad has been instructed to produce Omar Ayub in court on July 18.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan also heard the petition regarding the disqualification of Omar Ayub. A five-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner heard the case on the reference sent by the Speaker of the National Assembly, but Omar Ayub did not appear at this forum either.
Petitioner Babar Nawaz Khan took the stand that Omar Ayub was no longer “honest and trustworthy”, so he should be disqualified. The Election Commission was informed that a stay order was issued by the Peshawar High Court on this matter, the hearing of which is scheduled for August 5 for its cancellation. Accordingly, the commission adjourned the hearing.
