ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan on Thursday signed a landmark railway agreement to enhance regional connectivity and trade. The Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project will link Central Asia to Pakistani seaports via Afghanistan, boosting economic integration.
Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, who witnessed the signing in Kabul, called it a “major milestone” resulting from the PDM government’s efforts in 2022-23. The deal includes a feasibility study for the Naibabad-Kharlachi rail link under the UAP corridor.
Accompanied by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, Dar thanked Uzbek and Afghan counterparts for their commitment. The FO stated the project would promote regional stability and growth.
