North Waziristan Jirga demands restoration of peace and upholding their fundamental rights

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: The Utmanzi tribal Jirga has rejected military operations and demanded protection of their fundamental rights and restoration of peace in area.

The peace Jirga of the Utmanzi tribe was held district Headquarters Miranshah, which was attended by elders from all areas of North Waziristan. Addressing the occasion, the spokesperson of the Utmanzi Jirga, Mufti Baitullah, said that the Utmanzai Jirga, political alliances and the business community, including all North Waziristan elders, have unanimously decided that they would not allow the relocation and operation in North Waziristan.

He said that the operation is not a solution to the problems because, before this, many operations have been launched on various names without any significant results. The Jirga has agreed and made progress on many things of the government, including opening the Pak-Afghan Ghulam Khan border for trade, easing the curfew, and allowing non-customs-paid, i.e. NCP vehicles.

Mufti Baitullah, spokesperson of the Utmanzai Jirga, further said that the people of North Waziristan hope that further progress would be made in the government’s talks, which would yield positive results. Dr. Gul Alam, while talking to the media, said that it is the duty and responsibility of the government to establish peace.

The Jirga also demanded that Malik Akbar Khan, who has been in prison for the last eight months, be released as soon as possible so that their confidence could be restored in the government.

The spokesperson of the Atmanzai Jirga said that our next peace meeting will be in the Datta Khel tehsil of North Waziristan because the people of Datta Khel tehsil are facing a lot of difficulties. A curfew has been imposed for 11 days. The government should relax the curfew and resolve all issues, including peace, through mutual consultation and negotiations.
