PESHAWAR: The important talks between the covering candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for the Senate elections, Irfan Saleem, Ayesha Bano, Irshad Hussain, Waqas Orakzai and the party leadership have failed.
The disgruntled candidates of PTI have demanded two seats, while the Chief Minister, Amin Gandapur, has directed them to withdraw unconditionally. The disgruntled group is demanding that one of the two seats given to JUI-F and PPP be withdrawn or the election be contested.
Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, Taimur Jhagra and Shaukat Basra were present at the talks.
The second round of talks was held again at 9 pm tonight.
A meeting of PTI covering candidates was held on Thursday, in which the candidates for the general seat, Irfan Saleem, Waqas Orakzai, Khurram Zeeshan, the candidate for the technocrat seat, former IG Syed Irshad Hussain and the candidate for the women’s seat, Ayesha Ban, participated.
During the meeting, the candidates have made it clear that they will not withdraw from the Senate race.
On the other hand, an agreement has been reached between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the opposition on uncontested Senate elections. In a meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and opposition leaders, an agreement has been reached on a 5/6 formula. Under the formula, the PTI will get 6 seats and the opposition 5 seats.
Under the agreement, Talha Mahmood, Atta-ul-Haq Darwish, Rubina Khalid, Dilawar Khan and Niaz Ahmed will be elected uncontested senators from the opposition, while Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Azam Swati and Rubina Naz will be elected uncontested senators from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
