ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior and senior PML-N leader Senator Talal Chaudhry strongly criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, accusing it of deliberately undermining the Constitution by manipulating quorum to disrupt the upcoming Senate elections.
Addressing the media, Chaudhry alleged that the PTI-led provincial government was attempting to sell Senate seats to wealthy individuals in exchange for kickbacks. He accused the KP Assembly Speaker of deliberately violating court orders by blocking the oath-taking of newly-elected members under the pretext of quorum issues.
“This is a serious constitutional breach,” Chaudhry said, adding that the Speaker’s actions were part of a larger conspiracy to obstruct the democratic process and disregard judicial authority.
He slammed PTI’s governance in KP as “reckless and irresponsible,” citing the worsening law and order situation and an uptick in terrorist incidents. The state minister also criticized the province’s crumbling healthcare and education systems, noting that hospitals in Islamabad are overburdened due to an influx of patients from KP.
Highlighting administrative failures, he cited the unresolved Kohistan corruption scandal and accused the PTI government of protecting those involved.
Despite these concerns, Chaudhry vowed that the PML-N would resist any attempts to weaken democratic institutions or subvert the Constitution. “We will raise our voice on every platform to defend constitutional supremacy,” he asserted.
On a positive note, Chaudhry lauded the Punjab government’s effective handling of monsoon rains and flooding, stating that prompt response and relief operations were already underway to assist affected communities.
