SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The main Bazaar of Shakai valley, a Tehsil of South Waziristan, presents a deserted look as a multi-million beautification project, started in the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, remained incomplete despite growing public demand.
The drainage system has deteriorated while even the small and big streets are unpaved, due to which the bazaar is presenting a war torn look. According to local people more than Rs 60 million in funds were approved for developmental works under the beautification scheme, but due to a delay in the provision of funds, the project has not been completed.
Local political and social leader Hamza Wazir has expressed serious concern over this situation and said that the current provincial government’s attention is only on the release of Imran Khan, and they are not focusing public issues to address the problems at the grassroots level. He said that the development projects of the last 11 years are continuously delayed, while the entire Waziristan, including Wadi Shakai, are being neglected.
Hamza Wazir further said that the current government is not paying attention to any public welfare project, due to which people are deprived of basic facilities and are left to their own devices.
Another local youth expressed disappointment and said that the PTI government only made loud claims, but completely failed to provide basic amenities to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He demanded that the construction of Wadi Shakai Bazar needs urgent completion so that local traders and the public can get relief.
They said that the damaged streets and footpaths are causing pollution in the area and present a dirty look for the visitors. The local people have demanded that the provincial government immediately complete the stalled works under the beautification scheme and give priority to the restoration of the market.
